Nature Notes

A Hot and Sunny Garden

After the cold and snowy winter it is nice to forget the wooly cardigan and the central heating thermostat, and celebrate the fact that Summer is here and the living is as good as it gets, weatherwise anyway. Well it is for the plants if they are given regular supplies of water; especially these sweet peas in the picture below. Most birds have now stopped singing to advertise breeding territory and the young chicks are developing rapidly. My garden has a healthy population of Great and Blue Tits and Goldfinch, who seem to have established themselves here where they know that food and water can be found.
