Nature Notes

Ivy, a tangled mass of intertwining stems, shoots and shiny leaves

ivy, if not controlled can quickly get out of control and get a foothold in places where it is our of place or presenting a problem, such as growing up the wall of a house and getting under its eaves,

I have a largish patch of it at the end of my garden that I have not attended to for of ages and I am not going to prune or mess around with it until I am satisfied that it s free of birds' nests. Blackbirds, although not singing at this time of the year, can still breed through the summer and they like to build their nests in ivy as it provides shelter from the hot sun and also from predators.
