A Very Wet End to February
01/03/10This winter the jet stream has been anchored much further south than normal and as a result many countries have been suffering very unusual and extreme winter weather. Scotland has had huge amounts of snow, as much as 3ft (1 metre) has been recorded there, and much of Europe and North America has been affected as well. The Middle East and Morocco have been hit with heavy rain causing conditions that these countries are not used to dealing with. The island of Madeira has had twice the month's usual rainfall in a few hours.
Here in my humble garden the last 7 days of the month were wet and the final day of the month produced 15mm (0.6in.) of rain, and that day was overcast, windy and cold with a maximum daytime temp. of only 4.9 C.
