Weather Notes

Summer 2012 Was The Wettest For 100 Years

Summer 2012 has officially been declared the wettest one since 1912. In 1912 the city of Norwich, UK, experienced major flooding when the rivers Bure and Wensum burst heir banks; one of several floods affecting that city in recent history.

Rainfall in August was actually slightly lower than average, but because June and July received more than 50% of their normal rainfall, the total for the 3 summer months of June through August, was 32% wetter than normal. The wettest day of August was on the 30th when I recorded 20mm. The second and third week of August were rain-free and and very warm, with the 17th-19th being hot with a maximum temperature of 32.3C being recorded on the 18th.
